compact and simple December 19, 2008 Verne BEDWELL (KITWANGA BC CANADA) We purchased the SDZ-5 in 2006, it is identical to the SDZ-4 but has an included extended warranty, Soy Milk Maker - SoyQuick Automatic Soymilk Maker SDZ-5 Tasty milk in less than half-an-hour; the soy milk produced can also be made into great-tasting tofu with a little extra effort and the tofu press that came with my machine. If one wants to make tofu one can purchase soy-quick coagulator from Kitchens Best.
The leftover pulp, known as okara, can be added to many recipes and can also be frozen for later use. In addition to soy milk, this machine makes wonderful rice milk and both cooked and raw nut milks. We like to add almonds to rice milk. You can experiment with adding different flavorings and sweeteners to taste.
Cleaning consists of using a little care (as with most small kitchen appliances) to keep the power head out of the water while cleaning the attached grinding unit. Both the pitcher and filter are good quality stainless steel and easily cleaned with the provided scrub pad. Our daughter accidentally dropped the machine into a sink-full of water, and, although We wouldn't recommend doing this, it still works great. We really appreciate the removable cord.
Last but not least was the awesome service provided by Kitchens Best staff! We called them on a Friday afternoon, they said they wouldn't be able to ship until Monday, yet Monday morning it was at the Post Office in our small northern B.C. community. We later ordered an extra tofu press and a quantity of tofu coagulant which we received with the same good service. They provided courteous and dependable service, a real delight to speak to real people and not a machine, a little old fashioned and we like it.
We enjoyed the comfort of an extended warranty though we have not had to use it.

Excellent Customer Service December 18, 2008 Yoli King My SoyQuick was given to me and it came with no instructions only what my friend remembered about the product. I called the company and they were so helpful and sent me out the manual. I spoke on the phone for at least 15 minutes with a gentleman on how to better use my machine. I was very happy.
Great product!!! September 17, 2008 nicknick (california) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this, and tried my first few attempts to get the homemade soy milk similar to the store bought. When I first used it, the milk came out more like rice milk (very thin and watery). I finally found that having it grind only first, then having it run through a complete cycle (grinding again) worked like I wanted it to. Also, when you put the beans through the chute, do it when the head is not in the water. I would recommend this product, it is such a money saver (I bought 1 lb. of soybeans in the bulk section at the store for $.99/lb. and it made about 5 batches of milk), and you know exactly what is going into your milk. I use old glass juice jars to store the milk, and have not had a problem yet! You will not be disappointed with this purchase!
Works well; not quick to clean or tightly built September 3, 2008 Andrew Vosburg (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
From starting with pre-soaked soybeans to finishing the cleanup is about 30 minutes, 13 minutes of which is the machine's processing time, during which the cook can prepare the next day's soybeans by picking over and soaking (it only makes 1.5 quarts/1.4 liters). Cleaning the machine head and filter basket is laborious and water-intensive. The head is awkward to hold and cannot be put down safely for a rest (a problem that could easily and cheaply have been avoided in designing it not to roll). The first time I washed the carafe, water became trapped in the base, which then had to be unscrewed, causing two tiny nuts to fall out and roll under the refrigerator--now it's detached but still works. Sealing the base against water would have been a reasonable touch for an appliance in this price range. The soymilk is beany. If you've had inexpensive soymilk from an Asian grocery store, you'll recognize this product. If your expectations are conditioned by Silk, your nose may wrinkle the first few times you try it. Removing some of the skins after soaking helps, as does adding rinsed brown rice to the mixture. The machine does what it promises, but the buyer should not expect the flavor and texture of commercial soymilk, which also has a slight nutritional edge (richer in protein, but also in calories).
